释义

Parelladan.

Brit. /ˌparəˈjɑːdə/, U.S. /ˌpɛrəˈjɑdə/
Origin: A borrowing from Catalan. Etymon: Catalan parellada.
Etymology: < Catalan parellada (1890 in this sense; earlier in sense ‘parcel of land of the size that can be ploughed by a pair of oxen in a day’) < parella pair (1300; < post-classical Latin paricula , feminine of pariculus equal: see pareil adj. and n.) + -ada -ade suffix.J. Coromines Diccionari etimològic i complementari de la llengua catalana suggests that the grape variety is named after a minor place name, probably in southern Catalonia; there are several possible candidates, but it is uncertain which, if any of the extant ones, gave its name to the grape.
A variety of white wine grape, grown chiefly in the Penedès region of Catalonia in north-eastern Spain; the light, fruity white wine made from this.
