Chemistry.

A compound isolated from the plant Parthenium hysterophorus, originally thought to be an alkaloid and used in the treatment of neuralgia and fevers, and later identified as a sesquiterpene lactone (C₁₅H₁₈O₄) which is responsible for the allergic contact dermatitis associated with the plant.
