Etymology: < Middle French passibilité (1390; 1380 as paisibleté ) and its etymon post-classical Latin passibilitas capacity for suffering (4th cent.) < passibilis passible adj. + classical Latin -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare Italian passibilità (1309), Spanish †passibilidad (15th cent.). Compare earlier passible adj.
