单词 pastler
释义

pastlern.

Forms: Middle English pasteler, Middle English pasteller, Middle English pastiller, Middle English pastleer, Middle English pastlere, 1500s paistler, 1500s pastelar, 1500s pastlar, 1500s–1600s pastler. N.E.D. (1904) also records a form Middle English pastelere.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French pasteler.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman pasteler, pastiler < pastel little pie, pasty (c1190; probably < classical Latin pastillus pastille n. (in post-classical Latin also pastellus , 4th cent.), but in sense associated with post-classical Latin pasta paste n.) + -er -er suffix2. Compare Spanish pastelero (1430–40), post-classical Latin pastillarius (late 4th cent.).It is unclear whether the following earlier examples are to be interpreted as showing the Middle English or the Anglo-Norman word:1391 in L. T. Smith Exped. Prussia & Holy Land Earl Derby (1894) 64 Pro xliij shephell farine frumenti..emptis..de Hankyn Edeyne, pasteler, pro diuersis pastelleriis in domo suo factis.1413 in A. H. Thomas Cal. Plea & Mem. Rolls London Guildhall (1943) IV. 14 [John Halsale], pasteler. Attested earlier as a surname: Nicholas le Paysteler (1286), although it is unclear whether this is to be interpreted as reflecting the Middle English or the Anglo-Norman word.
