单词 bastarda
释义

bastardan.

Brit. /baˈstɑːdə/, U.S. /bæˈstɑrdə/
Forms: also with capital initial.
Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian bastarda.
Etymology: < Italian bastarda (adjective) designating a cursive Gothic script for vernacular use (early 18th cent. or earlier), specific use of feminine of bastardo (see bastard adj.), probably after French bâtarde (late 16th cent. or earlier in Middle French as adjective (as †bastarde ), late 18th cent. as noun). The script is so called as being perceived as a compromise between Gothic and Antiqua script, i.e. a ‘bastard’ of both. Compare earlier bastard hand , bastard script (see bastard adj. 4b).Compare Spanish bastarda, adjective (1780 or earlier).
1. Any of a group of black letter typefaces based on a cursive Gothic script of the 14th and 15th centuries (see sense 2).
