Etymology: < classical Latin peripneumonicus (also peripleumonicus ) person affected with pneumonia, (in post-classical Latin also) of or relating to pneumonia (4th cent.) and its etymon ancient Greek περιπνευμονικός (also περιπλευμονικός ) < περιπνευμονία peripneumonia n. + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare Middle French, French péripneumonique (1575).
