Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin patulus, English -icate.
Etymology: < classical Latin patulus spreading (see patulous adj.) + -icate, as if < the past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of a Latin verb in -icāre.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
intransitive. To open, spread out.
