Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by compounding. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: pedi- comb. form, palpus n.; Latin palpus.
Etymology: < pedi- comb. form + palpus n. or its etymon post-classical Latin palpus. In sense 2, after scientific Latin Pedipalpi (Latreille Genera Crustaceorum et Insectorum (1806) I. 128). Compare pedipalp n.

2. In plural (usually in form Pedipalpi). Members of an arachnid order Pedipalpi, including the whip scorpions and similar forms with large pedipalps (now usually separated into distinct orders). Now rare.The group was taken by some 19th-century authors to include all scorpions.
