Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin pede , pēs , scrīptum ; pedi- comb. form, Latin scrīptum.
Etymology: In quot. 1652 (and perhaps also in quot. 1999) < classical Latin pede with the foot, ablative of pēs foot (see -ped comb. form) + scrīptum script n.1 and adj., after manuscript n. In later use < pedi- comb. form + scrīptum script n.1, in quots. a1929 and 2003 after German Pediskript (1925 in the German title of Unthan's work).
