Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: French pimentier.
Etymology: Apparently irregularly < Old French pimentier perfumer (recorded only in the form piumentier ) < piment piment n. + -ier -ier suffix; compare -er suffix2. Compare earlier pigmentary n.However, in the quot. 1630 Gordon is quoting W. Camden Brit. (1607) and the 1610 translation of this by Holland, which have respectively panitarius baker (see panter n.2) and pantler n., for which presumably Gordon's peimander ultimately represents an error of some sort.
Scottish. Obsolete. rare.
Perhaps: a preparer of or dealer in spices or perfumes; a perfumer.
