Etymology: < French pendentif (1561 in Middle French, 1529 in plural pendentiz ) < classical Latin pendent- , pendēns hanging (see pendent adj.) + French -if -ive suffix.

1. Each of the concave curved triangles lying between the arches supporting a dome, cupola, etc., and the baseline of this structure; an analogous curved region between the groins of a vaulted roof, etc.
