Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek περιπατεῖν , περίπατος , -ize suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek περιπατεῖν to walk about (see peripatetic n. and adj.) or περίπατος act of walking about (see peripatos n.) + -ize suffix. Compare Middle French, French péripatétiser to talk while walking (1578). N.E.D. (1905) gives the pronunciation as (pe·ripătəi·z) /ˈpɛrɪpəˌtaɪz/.
Obsolete. rare.
