Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: pendulum n., -ate suffix3; pendule n., -ate suffix3.
Etymology: Partly < pendulum n. + -ate suffix3, and partly < pendule n. + -ate suffix3. Compare Italian pendolare to sway like a pendulum (a1523).
1. intransitive. To dangle, sway to and fro; to oscillate.
