Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin perfricāt-, perfricāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin perfricāt-, past participial stem (beside perfrict- ; compare -ate suffix3) of perfricāre to rub all over < per- per- prefix + fricāre to rub (see fricate v.). Compare Italian †perfricare (1521).

transitive. To rub thoroughly or all over; to scour.
