Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Pennin.
Etymology: < German Pennin (J. Fröbel & E. Schweizer 1840, in Ann. der Physik u. Chemie 50 523) < the name of the Pennine Alps, German Penninische Alpen , an area of the Swiss Alps (now called the Walliser Alpen ), where it was found; compare -ine suffix5.
Mineralogy. Now rare.
