单词 perbreak
释义

perbreakv.

Forms: Middle English parbrake, Middle English perebrake, Middle English–1500s perbrake; also Scottish pre-1700 perbraik, pre-1700 perbrekyt (past participle).
Origin: Apparently either (i) formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a Latin lexical item. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; perhaps modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: per- prefix, Latin per- , brake v.1, English brake , break v.
Etymology: Apparently < per- prefix or its etymon classical Latin per- + either brake v.1 or brake, variant of break v., perhaps after classical Latin perfringere to break through (see perfract adj.). In form parbrake after Middle French par- (see per- prefix). Compare slightly earlier perbreaking n. Compare also (in different sense) parbreak v.
Obsolete.
transitive. To make a breach in, break open or into, break, shatter. Also intransitive with reflexive meaning.
