Etymology: Origin uncertain; the first element is apparently penny n.; the second element is perhaps imitative.Penny-wabble is also recorded in the same sense in Scots in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Scottish, Irish English (northern), and English regional (northern). Now rare.
A thin weak beer originally sold at a penny a bottle.
