单词 perceptive
释义

perceptiveadj.n.

Brit. /pəˈsɛptɪv/, U.S. /pərˈsɛptɪv/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin percept- , percipere , -ive suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin percept-, past participial stem of percipere perceive v. + -ive suffix. Compare post-classical Latin perceptivus capable of perceiving (from 13th cent. in British and continental sources), French perceptif concerning perception (1754; earlier in Middle French in an isolated attestation with sense ‘that perceives’ (c1482)), Occitan perceptiu (c1350), Catalan perceptiu, Spanish perceptivo (1494 as perçeptivo; earlier as percetiva (1418)), Portuguese perceptivo (1873), Italian percettivo (a1639).The following probably shows an error for perspective n. (see sense 2a at that entry), perhaps by confusion with post-classical Latin perceptivus:c1440 (c1395) G. Chaucer Squire's Tale (Cambr. Ii.3.26) 234 Perceptyves [c1405 Hengwrt They speke of Alocen and Vitulon, Of Aristotle þat writen..Of queynte Mirours and of perspectyues].
