Etymology: < peri- prefix + systolic adj., after German périsystolisch (1845 in the source translated in quot. 1853; itself translating French périsystolique (A. N. Gendrin Leçons sur les maladies du cœur (1841) 45). Compare earlier perisystole n.
Medicine. Now rare.
Occurring near (esp. just before or after) systole.
