Etymology: < phanero- comb. form + zonate adj., after scientific Latin Phanerozonia, order name (see phanerozone adj.).
Zoology. Now rare.
Denoting, relating to, or characteristic of a group of starfishes distinguished by conspicuous marginal plates and comprising the order Phanerozonia (now usually divided into two orders, Paxillosida and Valvatida).
