Etymology: < ancient Greek ϕόβος fear (see -phobe comb. form) + ἄνθρωπος man (see anthropo- comb. form) + -y suffix3, after philanthropy n. Compare anthropophobia n. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (fǫbæ·nþrŏpi) /fɒˈbænθrəpɪ/.
Obsolete.
Morbid dread or strong dislike of humankind; = anthropophobia n.Apparently an isolated use.
