Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin phasma; Greek ϕάσμα.
Etymology: < classical Latin phasma or its etymon ancient Greek ϕάσμα (see phasma n.). Compare slightly earlier phasma n.
Now archaic and rare.
