Etymology: < philo- comb. form + African n.An alternative form Philafrican exists, attested only in the name of the Philafrican Liberators' League, an organization founded in the United States in 1896 to bring attention to the plight of African slaves, which worked to resettle liberated slaves in Africa:1896 N.Y. Times 20 Sept. ii. 9/4 Heli Chatelain, explorer, scholar, and founder of the Philafrican Liberators' League.

Promoting or seeking to promote the welfare or interests of Africans, esp. slaves in America.
