Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French perversité.
Etymology: < Middle French perversité state of being perverse or corrupt (late 12th cent. in Old French as perversiteit ), perverse act (a1267 in Old French; French perversité ) < classical Latin perversitās wrong-headedness, unreasonableness < perversus perverse adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare Old Occitan perversitat, perversedat (14th cent.; Occitan perversitat); Spanish perversidad (1377 as perversidat), Italian perversitá (1353; a1311 in sense ‘perverse action’).
The quality or character of being perverse; contrariness; an instance of this.
