Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a Greek lexical item. Etymons: phaco- comb. form, -oid suffix.
Etymology: < phaco- comb. form + -oid suffix, after ancient Greek ϕακοειδής having the shape of a lentil or lens, in Hellenistic Greek especially applied to the lens of the eye (also recorded as a Greek word in Latin context in Vesalius (1543)). With the adjective compare French phacoïde (H. Straus-Durckheim Anat. descr. et compar. du chat (1845) I. 521). With the noun compare slightly earlier phacoidal adj.

Having the shape of a lentil or lens; lenticular. Obsolete. rare.Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
