Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: phonetic adj., -o- connective.
Etymology: < phonetic adj. + -o- connective.Formations are found occasionally from the first half of the 19th cent. (apparently earliest in phonetico-hieroglyphic adj. ).
Now rare.
Forming adjectives with the sense ‘that relates to phonetics and ——’ or ‘that has a phonetic and —— value’.
phonetico-etymological adj. Obsolete employing both phonetic and etymological criteria.
