Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: phyto- comb. form, therapy n.
Etymology: < phyto- comb. form + therapy n. With sense 1 compare Italian fitoterapia (1828; also 1942 in sense 2). With sense 2 compare German Phytotherapie (1906 or earlier), French phytothérapie (1922).
