Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; probably modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: photo- comb. form, -graphy comb. form.
Etymology: < photo- comb. form + -graphy comb. form, probably after French photographie (1834 in this sense (see M. Wiedemann in Cahiers lexicol. 43 (1983) 90–5); 1832 in unrelated sense ‘scientific account of light’). Compare German Fotografie , †Photographie (1843).
