Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian pifferaro.
Etymology: < Italian regional pifferaro (Italian pifferaio ), although this is apparently first attested slightly later (1839) < Italian piffero piffero n. + -aro ( < classical Latin -ārius -ary suffix1). Compare French pifferaro (1829; < Italian).Not fully naturalized in English.
A person who plays the piffero.
