Etymology: < Sanskrit piśāca demon, fiend, ogre. Compare pishachi n.An early Anglo-Indian form pechaches or peisaches (plural) is also occasionally found, probably < Tamil paicācam < Sanskrit paiśāca demonic.1816 Asiatic Jrnl. & Monthly Reg. Oct. 367/1 Whirlwinds..at the end of March and the beginning of April..carry dust and light things along with them, and are called by the natives peshashes, or devils.1819 Trans. Bombay Lit.
