1867 Q. Jrnl. Microsc. Sci. 7 209 Cohn's phycocyan..must not be confused with the phykokyan of Kützing, which is synonymous with the phycochrome of Nägeli; neither with the phycocyan of Nägeli, which corresponds with the blueish-green modification of phycochrome.

1873 Proc. Royal Soc. 1872–3 21 464 Phycocyan gives a spectrum with a well-marked absorption-band in the orange, and has a very intense red fluorescence.

1934 Science 13 Apr. 332/2 The phycocyan from the red algae has a very peculiar stability curve.
