Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Phyllocarida.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Phyllocarida, subclass name (A. S. Packard 1879, in Amer. Naturalist 13 128) < phyllo- phyllo- comb. form + ancient Greek καριδ- , καρίς shrimp, prawn (see Caridea n.). Compare earlier phyllocaridan adj., phyllocaridan n.
