单词 pinkany
释义

pinkanyn.

Brit. /ˈpɪŋkəni/, U.S. /ˈpɪŋkəni/
Forms:

α. 1500s pink nye; English regional 1900s– pinkney.

β. 1500s pinckanie, 1500s pinckeny, 1500s pinkie nine (plural), 1500s pinky ney, 1500s–1600s pinckany, 1600s pinkan eye, 1600s pinkany, 1600s pinke-an-eye, 1600s pinker nie, 1600s 1800s pinken eye; English regional 1800s pinkeney, 1900s– pinkanye, 1900s– pinkenny.

Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: pink adj.1, English nye , eye n.1; pinkie adj., English nye.
Etymology: Partly < pink adj.1 + nye, variant of eye n.1 with metanalysis (see N n.), and apparently partly (in β. forms) < pinkie adj. (although this is first attested later) + nye (see above), unless the β. forms are taken as showing development of an epenthetic vowel. Compare earlier pink-eyed adj.1 With sense 2, which probably originated in children's talk or as a nursery endearment (compare nykin n., nylet n.), compare earlier pigsney n. Compare also pink v.2 and the Dutch words cited at that entry. With pinkany-John n. at Compounds compare pink-eyed John n. at pink-eyed adj.1 Compounds, pinkie-eyed John n. at pinkie adj. and n.1 Compounds 1.
