Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin pilus , -iform comb. form.
Etymology: < classical Latin pilus hair (see pilo- comb. form) + -iform comb. form. Compare French piliforme (1660 in an apparently isolated attestation; subsequently from 1828).
Zoology.
Shaped like a hair; in the form of a hair, hairlike.
