Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Greek πλεῖστος, δόξα.
Etymology: < ancient Greek πλεῖστος most (see Pleistocene adj. and n.) + δόξα opinion (see doxology n.), after orthodox adj. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (pləi·stŏdǫks) /ˈplaɪstədɒks/.
Obsolete.
Holding the opinion of the majority.Apparently an isolated use.
