Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pisolithus.
Etymology: < scientific Latin pisolithus (1708 or earlier) < ancient Greek πίσος , πίσον pulse, pease (see pease n.) + scientific Latin -lithus -lite comb. form1. Compare French pisolite (1765 in sense 2, 1832 in sense 1; also 1768 as pisolithe in sense 1: see pisolith n.).
Geology.
1. = pisolith n.In quot. 1708 included in a list of supposed animal fossils.
