单词 pinson
释义

pinsonn.

Brit. /ˈpɪns(ə)n/, U.S. /ˈpɪns(ə)n/
Forms: Middle English pynsone, Middle English–1500s 1900s– pynson, Middle English–1600s pinsone, 1500s pinsen, 1500s–1700s 1900s– pinson. N.E.D. (1906) also records a form late Middle English pyncon.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: pinsons n.
Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps related in some way to pinsons n. Compare French pincer pinch v., pinçon toe-piece of a horseshoe (1762), pince extremity of a horse's hoof (1376 in Middle French as pinche).
Now historical.
A kind of thin shoe; a slipper or pump. Frequently in plural.Pinsons appear to have become obsolete soon after 1600 and no contemporary description of them is known, although there has been much subsequent conjecture. A. Way in Promp. Parv. (1865) (note) suggests ‘possibly, high and unsoled shoes of thin leather, worn with pattens’.
