Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pisticus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pisticus, adjective designating nard (Vetus Latina, Vulgate) < Hellenistic Greek πιστικός (New Testament), perhaps ‘genuine, pure’, a sense of πιστικός faithful < ancient Greek πίστις faith (see pisteology n.) + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare earlier piste n.1
