Etymology: < classical Latin pinguēdin-, pinguēdō fatness, oiliness ( < pinguis fat (see pinguid adj.) + -ēdō, suffix forming nouns) + -ous suffix. Compare post-classical Latin pinguedinosus (1652 in a British source). N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (piŋgwe·dinəs) /pɪŋˈɡwɛdɪnəs/.
Obsolete.
Of the nature of or resembling fat; fatty, greasy.
