Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: plastic n., -ate suffix3.
Etymology: < plastic n. + -ate suffix3, probably originally after masticate v. In sense 2 after French plastiquer (1961); compare slightly earlier plastiqueur n. and plastic-bomb v.
1. transitive. To change (rubber or a thermoplastic) into a homogeneous mouldable mass by processing in an extruder, usually with simultaneous heating.
