Etymology: < the name of Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (1872–98), English illustrator and member of the Aesthetic Movement + -esque suffix. Compare Beardsleyan adj.
Designating Aubrey Beardsley's black and white line drawings, esp. his illustrations, in the style of art nouveau, produced during the 1890s. Hence: relating to, characteristic or reminiscent of this work.Beardsley’s illustrations typically depict erotic or grotesque subjects, and are often regarded as epitomizing the decadence of the end of the 19th cent.
