Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French placage.
Etymology: < French placage plastering with cob (1392), facing a material with a thin layer of more precious material (1676), liquid mortar (1803) < plaquer (see placard n.) + -age -age suffix. N.E.D. (1907) gives the non-naturalized pronunciation (plàkà·ʒ) /plaˈkaʒ/.
Obsolete.
The action or an act of facing a wall with a thin layer of plaster, marble, etc.; a facing of this sort.
