Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French plissé.
Etymology: < French plissé, noun ‘pleated section of a garment’ (1785) and adjective ‘pleated’ (1539 in Middle French), ‘wrinkled’ (1797), use as noun and adjective respectively of the past participle of Middle French, French plisser to pleat (1538), probably < the plural of pli fold (see ply n.). Compare earlier mantoplicee n.
