单词 bekimed
释义

bekimedadj.

Forms: early Middle English bikimet.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: English *becȳmed.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps the reflex of an unattested Old English *becȳmed, past participle of *becȳman to bewilder, confuse, stupefy < be- prefix + Old English *cȳman (see kimet adj. and discussion at that entry). Compare later akimed adj. and kime n.The attested Middle English form, with stem vowel i instead of u (the usual western reflex of Old English ), is presumably the result of sporadic unrounding of Old English in the environment of a preceding (palatalized) k and a following nasal plus front vowel in a closed syllable, a feature of the so-called ‘AB language’ of the south-west midlands (compare A. F. Colborn Hali Meiðhad (1940) 68–9, H. M. Logan Dial. Life St. Katherine (1973) 78–9).
Obsolete.
= akimed adj. Also: foolish, stupid.
