Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Plica Polonica.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin Plica Polonica (1647 or earlier) < plica plica n. + Polonica , feminine singular of Polonicus Polish ( < Polonia Poland (see polony adj. and n.2) + classical Latin -icus -ic suffix). Compare later plica neuropathica n.
Medicine. Now chiefly historical.
A matted condition of the hair, generally associated with poor hygiene and pediculosis.
