Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin podagrōsus.
Etymology: < classical Latin podagrōsus suffering from gout, gouty < podagra podagra n. + -ōsus -ous suffix. Compare Middle French, French †podagreux (1528), Old Occitan poudagros (15th cent.; Occitan podagrós ), Italian podagroso , noun (14th cent.) and adjective (a1698). Compare earlier podagre adj., podagric adj., podagrical adj.
Medicine. Now rare.
Of or relating to gout; suffering from gout; gouty. Also figurative.
