Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: podo- comb. form, -carp comb. form.
Etymology: < podo- comb. form + -carp comb. form, originally after scientific Latin Podocarpus, genus name (see Podocarpus n.), in later use also after Podocarpaceae, family name (see podocarpaceous adj.). Compare Italian podocarpo (1835).
Botany.
1. A tree or shrub of the genus Podocarpus, or of the family Podocarpaceae. Frequently attributive. See Podocarpus n.
