单词 plasma cell
释义

plasma celln.

Brit. /ˈplazmə sɛl/, U.S. /ˈplæzmə ˌsɛl/
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: plasma n., cell n.1
Etymology: < plasma n. + cell n.1, after German Plasmazelle (W. Waldeyer 1875, in Arch. f. mikrosk. Anat. 11 189; later used in different sense (compare quot. 1940) by P. G. Unna (1891, in Monatschr. f. prakt. Dermatol. 1 Apr. 304)).1940 Acta Med. Scand. 103 569 When Waldeyer..used the term plasma cell in 1875, he elected to do so not because he thought these cells secreted part of the plasma, but because of the abundant protoplasm. He made use of the term plasma cell to designate a number of different cells rich in protoplasm, but in subsequent works, especially those of Unna..and Marschalko,..the use of the name was restricted to the cell that is now known as the plasma cell.
Physiology.
In early use: any of several kinds of inflammatory cell with abundant cytoplasm, found in connective tissue. Later: spec. a fully differentiated, antibody-producing B lymphocyte, having abundant basophilic cytoplasm and an eccentric nucleus with a chromatin pattern resembling a clock face or cartwheel; = plasmacyte n.

Soc. 613 Waldeyer's plasma-cells correspond in staining reactions to Ehrlich's Mastzellen, but not to Unna's ‘plasma-cells’, and Waldeyer proposes to give up his use of the term as applied to normal elements of connective tissue. The cells he described as ‘plasma-cells’ are Ehrlich's Mastzellen and eosinophilous cells.
