Etymology: < polish v. + -er suffix1. Compare post-classical Latin polissor (1253 in a British source), Middle French, French polisseur person who polishes (1389 in Middle French as pollisseur).With the Older Scots form polysour compare -or suffix. It is unclear whether the following should be interpreted as showing the Middle English or Anglo-Norman word:1331 Acct. in L. F. Salzman Building in Eng. (1952) iv. 71 [The accounts for St. Stephen's Chapel at Westminster in 1331 show..John Colyn] polysshere.
