Etymology: < plug v. + -ed suffix1. In sense 1 partly also < plug n. + -ed suffix2. In sense 4 after to plug in (see plug v. 3). Compare earlier unplugged adj.
1. Stopped up or filled with, or as with, a plug; (in early use) spec. (of an explosive shell) having a plug instead of a fuse.
